With temperatures soaring to around 30°C, it’s more than just uncomfortable—it can be dangerous, especially for the elderly, young children, and anyone with health conditions.

🚨 What Does an Amber Heat Alert Mean?

An amber alert signals that the heat poses a real risk to health and could have wider impacts across the community. It’s important to take this seriously—even if you’re fit and healthy.

✅ 7 Smart Tips to Stay Cool & Safe

Here are our top tips to help you and your loved ones stay safe during the heat:

1.Avoid Peak Heat (11am–3pm)

Plan activities for early morning or late evening. This includes things like walking the dog, gardening, or even cleaning.

2.Stay Hydrated

Drink plenty of water—even if you don’t feel thirsty. Avoid too much caffeine or alcohol, which can dehydrate you.

3.Keep Indoors Cool

  • Shut curtains or blinds on sun-facing windows during the day.

  • Open windows at night or early morning when it’s cooler.

  • Use fans if needed, and avoid using ovens or heat-generating appliances indoors.

4.Dress for the Weather

Choose light-coloured, loose-fitting clothes, and wear a hat and sunglasses when outside. Use sun cream with high SPF.

5.Check In on Others

If you know someone who lives alone or is vulnerable—especially the elderly or those with health issues—check in on them.

6.Know the Signs of Heat Illness

Watch out for:

  • Heat exhaustion: heavy sweating, dizziness, nausea, headache

  • Heatstroke (a medical emergency): hot dry skin, confusion, fainting, fast breathing

If in doubt, call 999.

7.Plan Indoor Tasks Wisely

If you’re a client of ours, or managing a property, try to schedule cleaning or maintenance work outside the hottest hours of the day. Our team is adapting schedules to ensure the safety of staff and clients alike.
